What problems do wildlife cause?

Most of the calls we get are because homeowners hear animals scurrying around inside the attic or walls. Most of the damage inside a houes or attic is unseen. Rodents like squirrels, mice, and rats often chew on electrical wires. Wildlife such as raccoons, bats, birds, opossums, and rats spread several diseases that humans can and do catch, such as Histoplasmosis, Salmonella, Leptospirosis and more. Many critters leave droppings and urine in an attic or cause mold or odor problems. We also handle animals outside the house. It could be a critter that has dug a large hole next to your house, or a raccoon in your garbage cans, an opossum that is stealing pet food, or a skunk living under your deck, causing an odor problem. Some animals destroy your garden or landscaping. Or perhaps you are simply scared of snakes. Whatever the problem is, our wildlife experts can remove the source of the problem, and prevent it from happening again. We are not a Harrisburg extermination company, nor pest control. About Opossum

Opossums are the only marsupial mammal of North America. These mammals are to be found throughout Colorado, Texas, California, Pennsylvania Harrisburg bird control, Oregon, and Washington Harrisburg bird control; they are also found in southern regions of British Columbia. Opossums cannot be found in areas with high altitude and latitude ecosystems, due to the frostbites. The frostbites will result with tissue damage and infections, and this is the main reason why opossums do not inhabit the mountains, or in extreme deserts.

Adult opossums can be long between 24 and 40 inches (61-102 centimeters), along with their tail, which is long between 10-12 inches (25-30 centimeters). Males are larger than the females, and they can weigh up to 12 pounds (5.5 kilograms). Opossum’s Harrisburg rodent extermination fur is long, the color varies from coarse dark gray to white gray on the outside, and the underfur is mainly black or dark brown. This dark underfur is predominant on the legs. They have five toes on their feet; the first toe has no claw, and is thumb like (opposable). Opossum’s ears are hairless, they have black eyes, and white faces covered in fur. Opossums also have long Harrisburg rodent extermination snouts with a distinctive pink nose. When it comes to the habitat area, opossums can live anywhere within their general habitat preferences- opossums are found in woods, farmlands, parks, shrub lands, and even in suburbs and urban areas. Opossums will most likely occupy abandoned subterranean nests of any other species, or they can live in hollow trees, under the porch, and anywhere they can crawl into.

However, opossums are the creatures that you are most likely to find near some reliable water source. As for the food, opossums are omnivores, and they will eat whatever they can find. Depending on the availability of the food sources, opossums will eat anything from insects, through carcasses and garbage, all up to eating other opossums. Yes, these omnivores will eat some of their own species, which is not that strange in the wildlife world. This means that an opossum will almost never starve to death. The home range of an opossum contains about 50 acres, and opossum changes his acre depending on the food and water availability. Unlike any other animals, opossums seem not to be interested in territorial disputes and fights.

Opossums are nocturnal creatures, and you can spot one for the distinctive eye shine in the illumination of a Harrisburg rat control flashlight. Opossums are also great climbers and rapid runners. They can be active any time of the year, and during the winter, they will prolong their activities into the daylight. Since they are nocturnal animals, opossums have excellent night vision, but their distance vision is poor, just as the overall visual insight. The smell and hearing of an opossum are also excellent; they use these senses to find themselves food, and to evaluate it. Except for the breeding time, opossums are solitary creatures, and the breeding season can occur between February and August. After a year, female is sexually mature, and can breed. If a year is good for opossums, then a female can have even two Harrisburg bat removal litters of young (one litter can vary between 8 and even 14 young Harrisburg rat control opossums). When it comes to gestation, it only lasts 12 or 13 days, and at this period, the young crawl into their mother’s pouch where they will stay for about 8 or 9 weeks.

After 14 Harrisburg snake removal weeks, young opossums are left to fend for themselves. If they encounter any danger, opossums will make noises such as hissing, growling, or they will start showing their teeth (opossums have 50 sharp teeth), and snapping with them. Besides these noises, mothers will purr to their babies. However, opossums can also ‘play possum’ if they are in extreme danger, and there is no other Harrisburg snake removal escape. Playing Harrisburg bat removal opossum means playing dead. The opossum will be inactive, and it will limply lay with mouth wide open and tongue sticking out. While an opossum is in this state, the breathing will become undetectable, and opossums can stay like this up to several hours.

This animal will even release an odor to make a predator leave. This way, the Harrisburg raccoon removal opossum will survive a fatal encounter with the predator. In the wilderness, opossums will probably live 2 years, while in captivity the lifespan of an opossum goes up to 7 years. This is because there are no predators in captivity, as there are in the wilderness. Opossums’ natural predators are bobcats, foxes, and owls. Another predator of an opossum is a hawk, who will take an opossum in the dawn or dusk overlapping. People are one of the most common causes of death of an Harrisburg raccoon removal opossum, but not because they hunt opossums (even though opossums are edible); the main problem is cars. Opossums are often crossing the roads, they even eat on the road, and they are easily struck by a car, or a truck.
